  • Journalists have been beaten, manhandled and misbehaved by the security personnel deployed for the security of Former King Gyanendra Shah in Bhaktapur today (26 July 2010). The journalists had gone to Bhaktapur’s Chittapol to collect news on Former King Gyanendra’s attendence in a holy program.The organizers and the security forces attacked the journalists as they tried to get remarks and comments of the Former King.

     According to FNJ Kavre district president Bhola Thapa journalist Manoj Basnet, and correspondent of Kantipur daily Makar Shrestha have been injured in the incident. Similarly the security personnel have damaged a camera of Sagarmatha Televison.
     
    FNJ Kavre district Preisent Bhola Thapa and journalist Manoj Basnet has been injured in the incident. The journalists chanted slogans against the King as well as the local police protesting the incident.
     
    Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) totally denounces the act of the security personnel and urges the government to act responsibly. FNJ also demands fair probe into the incident and compensation to the damage caused to the camera of Sagaramatha Television. FNJ once again urges the government to be serious on the physical security of the journalists.
