The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) expresses its serious concern over the vandalism of the motorcycle of journalist Lukman Ansari while he was covering a clash between two groups.

According to the FNJ Koshi Province Committee, the incident occurred on July 27, 2026  at Nayahat (Kaptanganj), Dewanganj Rural Municipality–3, Sunsari District. Ansari, who is also a member of the FNJ Koshi Province Committee, was gathering news when his motorcycle was vandalized.

The FNJ considers any act that obstructs journalists from carrying out their professional duties, damages their property, or creates an atmosphere of fear to be highly condemnable and a direct attack on press freedom. Such incidents are unacceptable in a democratic society.

The Federation strongly urges the concerned authorities to identify those responsible for the incident without delay and bring them to justice in accordance with the law.

The FNJ also appeals to all journalists to remain committed to the Code of Ethics, exercise necessary safety precautions, and continue performing their professional responsibilities responsibly.

Furthermore, the Federation urges all concerned parties to treat the Dewanganj incident in Sunsari with the utmost seriousness, refrain from any activities that could incite religious or social discord, and remain sensitive to the safety and security of the lives and property of the general public.
